Warning to dog owners to clean up act
A NEW city council campaign has been launched to stop owners letting their dogs foul on Leith Links.
Posters and a leaflet aimed at educating people on appropriate behaviour have been distributed to coincide with National Poop Scoop Week.
The council has teamed up with the Dogs Trust and Keep Scotland Beautiful to encourage dog owners to help keep our public spaces clean for the summer.
Councillor Norman Work, the city's deputy health, social care and housing leader, said: "Dog fouling patrols are a daily activity for environmental wardens.
"These environmental wardens will continue to educate and raise awareness, but they will also take enforcement action on those who fail to clear up after their dogs."
John Summers, chief executive of Keep Scotland Beautiful, added: "It is a careless minority that are still leaving the mess behind for others to step in.
"Dog fouling can spoil our parks, pavements and beaches, but is a problem which KSB is determined to tackle."
A recent survey carried out by KSB, found two-thirds of people are more annoyed by dog dirt than anything else dropped on the country's streets.
