Walker is found dead on sub-zero mountain
A WALKER missing over-night in sub-zero temperatures on a Highland mountain was found dead yesterday.
A search was launched when the experienced walker, in his 30s, failed to return to an agreed meeting point at Spean Bridge, in Lochaber, on Monday at 6pm.
He had been walking in the Grey Corries area of Aonach Mor, near Fort William.
A helicopter search carried out that night was called off early because of freezing fog.
The search resumed early yesterday morning with Lochaber mountain rescue team and a helicopter scouring the area.
A body was recovered from the hillside in the afternoon.
A spokesman for the Rescue Co-ordination Centre at RAF Kinloss said: "It was particularly sad because he was on the route he said he was doing, but unfortunately must have taken a tumble.
"The weather was particularly cold, so it was not surprising he did not survive."
