Voting closes in Haltemprice and Howden by-election
THE polls have closed in the by-election for Haltemprice and Howden, the contest which was triggered by shadow home secretary David Davis' resignation last month.
Mr Davis is expected to be returned to the House of Commons after he quit the day after the controversial terror detention legislation was passed by parliament.
He has based his campaign on a civil liberties stance.
Although 25 candidates are standing for the by-election, the Liberal Democrats and Labour did not field a candidate.
