Virgin rapped over TV ads
VIRGIN Media misled consumers with its high-definition offer ahead of the football World Cup, a watchdog has ruled.
The campaign promised customers a one-off set-up charge of 49, with a voice-over on the television ad saying: "With Virgin Media you get amazing HD for no extra monthly fee."
Sky and other complainants said the ad misled new customers who were also required to pay a 35 installation fee.
Defending the campaign, Virgin Media said the ads made it clear in the small print that new customers would have to pay a standard installation fee of 35, but the Advertising Standards Authority disagreed.
