VILLAGERS have joined the search for a young man who went missing after a dance.
More than 160 volunteers turned out in Dornoch to look for Lachlan Simpson, 21, who was last seen at the Sutherland Show on Saturday night.
Coastguard, police dogs and a helicopter crew have been involved in the hunt for the man from the nearby village of Embo.
Locals gathered for a briefing by police in the town square before forming groups and searching the beachfront, dunes and surrounding areas.
Chief Inspector Colin Gough said: “Police and partners have been overwhelmed by the response and assistance provided by the community. We are extremely grateful to everyone who attended despite the changeable weather conditions.”
“Further searches are planned for today, with volunteers wishing to assist requested to attend Dornoch Police Station at 10am.”
Mr Simpson was last seen at around 11pm on Saturday at the dance marquee in the Links area of the town.
He is described as 6ft and slim, with short blond hair. He was last seen wearing a green and white top.
