Views wanted on the future of Leith Links

A CONSULTATION has been launched into the future of one of Edinburgh's best-known green spaces.

Documents on the proposals for Leith Links have been released and local organisations have urged residents to make their views known.

The Leith Links Seaward Extension is not a planning application and is merely a guideline for what may happen in the area.

The plans vary from other ideas on how to extend the links, and environmental organisation Greener Leith is urging all local people to make their feelings known.

It pointed out it may help boost green spaces for the area, which it says have not been accounted for in Forth Ports' plans to regenerate nearby Leith Docks.

A spokesman for the organisation said: "Greener Leith has already voiced concerns that the new Leith Docks Outline Planning Application does not contain a suitable amount of new green space, particularly with regard to sport facilities.

"Greater thought needs to be put into this in order to meet the likely demand. Will one extra football pitch be sufficient to cope with the demand from all the new residential development?"
