Video: Radio Forth awards
A STANDING ovation in memory of fallen firefighter Ewan Williamson was given last night at the star-studded Radio Forth Awards in the Capital's Assembly Rooms.
Members of the audience in the packed venue rose from their seats as colleagues of the late Mr Williamson collected the Local Hero Award in honour of him – a tribute to the bravery he showed while tackling a fire in the city, which cost him his life.
Oliver Carrigan, from Green Watch at Tollcross Fire Station, was also injured in the Balmoral bar fire on 12 July. He said: "It was very emotional to collect this award to be perfectly honest – it brought everything back.
Joining the firefighters at the event were pop legends Spandau Ballet who won the Forth2 Contribution to Music Award, presented by the all-girl group Sugababes, who also took the Forth One Best Artist Award.
The Haughey McAuley Academy of Irish Dance – winners of Edinburgh's Got Talent – also performed earlier in the afternoon as a reward for their success in the Evening News competition.
Spandau Ballet closed the show with a live performance, announcing to the audience they "loved this city".
Sugababes gave a live performance of three tracks.
