Up and coming: Tiny Masters of Today
Who are these Tiny Masters Of Today?
A teen sibling duo from Brooklyn with a lo-fi punk aesthetic. Ivan and younger sister Ada have been performing together since Ada was nine. They are now veterans of two albums at the ages of 15 and 13.
They have friends in hip places.
Russell Simins of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion was their original drummer, and guests on their first album included Karen O and Nick Zinner from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fred Schneider from The B-52s and, most disturbingly, Gibby Haynes from The Butthole Surfers. David Bowie is a fan.
What do they sound like?
New album Skeletons takes more of an industrial electro approach than their DIY punk debut Bang Bang Boom Cake, but it's still a one-chord wonder, featuring the satirical thrash Abercrombie Zombie and such childlike mantras as "got a big stick, gonna hit you with it, hit you with it" (Big Stick).
What others are saying:
"Their songs are like Sesame Street being brought to you by the letters D, E, V and O with Kim Gordon playing Cookie Monster"
– NME
"Like Suicide crashing a Shaggs rehearsal" – David Bowie
"Each song is like a strange little kid flicking your forehead over and over again. It's annoying and eventually it's painful"
