Union evidence of ScotRail jobs pledge
A RAIL union claims there is evidence that ScotRail made a pledge to maintain conductors' jobs during their franchise.
Strikes have been called in protest at plans for drivers to take over conductors' duties on a new Edinburgh-Glasgow route via Bathgate and Airdrie.
The Rail, Maritime and Transport Union stoppages are planned for this Saturday; Monday, 1 March and Saturday, 13 March.
In a 2004 letter to the union, from former ScotRail managing director Mary Grant stating: "I can give you an assurance that First ScotRail will not, during the current franchise, be removing conductors from any of the services on which they are now present."
ScotRail admits conductors on the current Edinburgh-Bathgate route will be transferred elsewhere when the new line opens in December.
