Unhealthy lack of knowledge
MOST people do not know their own body mass index (BMI) or body-fat ratio, although they understand the figures can indicate an increased risk of serious health problems.
Of more than 1,000 people questioned, 68 per cent of men and 63 per cent of women did not know their BMI and 90 per cent were not aware of their body-fat ratio. Yet 97 per cent could identify that a high BMI along with a high body-fat ratio meant a higher risk of heart disease, some cancers and type 2 diabetes.
BMI shows a person's mass in relation to their height, while body fat ratio is the percentage of weight that is fat.
