Unfair pay for the fair sex
BRITISH women still lag well behind their male colleagues when it comes to pay despite closing the gender salary gap, according to new research.
Women in the UK trail behind men in similar jobs on average by 18.9 per cent. However, Britain is not alone, as the study found women in every country in the European Union earned less than men. The biggest gap was in Slovakia, where women earn 26.9 per cent less than men, followed by Portugal (25.4 per cent) and then Estonia (25.3 per cent).
A spokeswoman for the European Industrial Relations Observatory, which published the research, said: "The pay gap can only decrease if there is a change in attitudes."
