Words catch global mood

THE most-used English phrases of the last decade have been revealed, painting a gloomy picture of the global mood.

"Climate change", "the war on terror" and "credit crunch" all featured high on the list.

Of the top 12 entries, compiled by the Global Language Monitor, all had negative connotations – with the first neutral entry being "King of Pop", a reference to Michael Jackson.

Texas-based GLM monitors the internet, media and data-bases to estimate how many times certain topics are brought up. In the last ten years, "climate change" came in at number one.
