Union may rethink links to Labour
ONE of the biggest union affiliates to Labour is set to debate its future links after an “unprecedented” number of branches raised concerns about the political party’s policies.
The GMB said yesterday a quarter of motions to its annual conference in June related to the union’s political stance in the wake of anger over statements by Labour leader Ed Miliband and shadow chancellor Ed Balls in support of some of the government’s austerity measures.
The two had made speeches and given interviews backing the cap on public sector pay in mid-January, two weeks before the closing date for motions to be submitted by GMB branches
A union source said the number of motions on links with Labour was “unprecedented” and ranged from stepping up efforts to “reclaim” Labour, to “walking away” from it.
The GMB, the third largest donor, gives Labour more than £2 million a year in affiliation fees and other funds.

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 06:45 AM6 footdee Ronnie Saez landed a package worth around six times his salary after being made redundant from his post as chief executive of Glasgow East Regeneration Agency (GERA). His exit deal comprised a "severance payment" of £42,000 and a £470,000 boost to his pension, which included a discretionary £208,000. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It beggars belief. But in reality it just beggars Glasgow.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 07:36 PM12 Sound precautions Tennis. If those SNP spoilsports get their hands on the paperwork there's no telling what crazy interpretations they could put on the uniquely "Labour way" GCC run things. But... who's panicking? Certainly not Matheson, did you see him on telly after the budget vote, he was like a dog with two dicks... - did look a bit odd though, maybe he'd had a meeting with Stephen Purcell before, Stephen always managed to put on a smile too, even in the worst of circumstancesm - maybe sone kind of Zen thing.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 02:44 PM#10 - The last I heard, Johann Lamont was desperately trying to contact Buddy Rich, Phil Collins and Ringo Star to get them to drum up support for our cause. Either she has misunderstood something or I misheard her message. Anyway, it's all go at our headquarters, where we have two activists making tea and coffee, three answering the phone, five on the PCs, forty two operating the shredders and ten preparing false passports (for some reason). There is a general feeling of confidence in the air but we are taking nothing for granted.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 12:50 PM8 - HeyTennis, what's your thinking on the emergence of "Glasgow Labour"? I know we can alwatys rely on your unerring sense of what's really going on behind the scenes with those proud defenders of the people at Labour HQ. Perhaps you better check Eddie Izzard hasn't mistakenly signed up to provide his powerful political support to Glasgow Labour by mistake?
and I'm not making this up
Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 09:33 AMWe have the BLUE TORIES - Conservatives. We have the YELLOW TORIES - Lib Dems. And last, bit not least, we have the RED TORIES - Labour. It is a pity that unions have taken this long to discover what we Scots have known for years - you don't trust Tories no matter what colour they are.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 06:25 AMIt's one thing after another. Now Eddie Izzard has phoned to tell us he won't be available in Glasgow this May for the critical campaign for the council elections. Apparently he'll be in Hartlepool where he will have a cameo role in the children's pantomine 'The Battle For Midway Island'. Thanks for nothing, Eddie.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 12:31 AMIf your overlords lie, take you for granted and act solely in their own interests, then the only option is to throw of the shackles and claim your independance.....................who knows, perhaps like the SNP, the unions may witness a resurgence in membership if they choose the path of freedom.
