UK air travel policy slated
THE Government has shown "inaction and inertia" over protecting holidaymakers from travel company collapses, according to a new report.
It is likely to take a major collapse rather than a deliberate policy to get the changes necessary, the report from the Air Travel Insolvency Protection Advisory Committee (ATIPAC) is expected to say.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which is due to publish the report from the independent committee, has been pressing the Government to introduce legislation to top up the Air Travel Trust fund, which is 9.7 million in deficit. The fund is a back-up to the CAA-run Air Travel Organisers Licence scheme.
