Tycoon wins £5m appeal

PROPERTY tycoon Nicholas van Hoogstraten today won his appeal over a £5 million claim by the family of a man he was convicted of killing.

Three appeal judges effectively overturned a series of rulings in the High Court that saw Hoogstraten being fined more than 1m and having his assets frozen and seized.

Van Hoogstraten, 59, was sentenced to ten years in 2002 for the manslaughter of Mohammed Raja but the conviction was set aside by the criminal Court of Appeal last year.
