TWIGGY touched down in Scotland yesterday and said the country was home to some of the best fashion she’d seen.
The model, who arrived in Aberdeen to help launch a film festival and a string of events dedicated to the over 50s, revealed her own secret to looking good with age – tap dancing.
The 62-year-old, regarded as one of the world’s first supermodels, said one of the greatest ever fashion talents was Aberdeenshire-born designer Bill Gibb, who died in 1988.
Twiggy – real name Lesley Lawson – said Scotland should be proud of the designer, who was a close friend of the model’s.
It was only the star’s second time in the north east, since visiting the designer at his Fraserburgh home more than 30 years ago.
She said: “You produced one of the greatest ever designers and that’s Bill. His clothes were so beautiful and I have still got the special clothes he made me.
“He was one of the great talents.”
Twiggy, who has created her own clothing range for Marks and Spencer, said he taught her that fashion should be fun, whatever age you are. She said: “I’m a great believer that age shouldn’t influence how you dress.
“I got a letter from an 85-year-old saying she had bought her first pair of skinny jeans and they were mine.”
