Tree–mendous display at Windsor

A chandelier decorated to look like a Christmas tree will be the centrepiece of a new exhibition recreating Queen Victoria’s Christmas.

Festive gifts exchanged between the queen and her husband Albert, will also feature at the display at Windsor Castle which opens today.

In 1860, a visitor to the Berkshire royal residence described decorations in Victoria’s day, and how
rooms were “lit up with Christmas trees hung from the ceiling”.

For the exhibition, the Royal Collection Trust has decorated the chandelier in the castle’s octagon dining room with garlands of ivy and pine, berries, ribbons, small toys, paper chains and confectionery cones to resemble a festive fir.
