Tourist boss’s bar on English

A CORNISH tourist chief has urged staff to stop referring to Cornwall as a county and to try not to mention England when promoting the area.

In a memo, Visit Cornwall boss Malcolm Bell said the region should stand alone from the rest of the United Kingdom in an effort to attract more visitors.

He said: “This isn’t a ban. We just want to make sure that in a field full of poppies, Cornwall is the tallest.”

Cornwall until the 11th ­century maintained close links with Britanny and Ireland, resisting rule from Saxon and Norman England right up until late medieval times.
