Tony Blair to face Iraq war inquiry early in the new year
TONY Blair will be called to give evidence to the Iraq War inquiry early next year, it was announced today. The former prime minister will be among a series of senior Labour figures to be grilled months ahead of the general election expected in the spring.
Sir John Chilcot, who is chairing the inquiry, Mr Blair and other ministers would be asked to appear before his committee early in the new year. Some may be called to give evidence again, but these more detailed sessions will not take place until after the election, which must be held in June at the latest.
The report will not be published until the end of 2010, or even 2011.
