Tolkien stamp is first class

THE 50th anniversary of the publication of JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings was being commemorated today with a special stamp issue.

Royal Mail was celebrating the release of the first two parts of the book with a special edition of ten first class stamps with illustrations from the original editions.

The hand-drawn images of Middle Earth were being shown at Birmingham’s Sarehole Mill, one of Tolkien’s childhood haunts and the inspiration for his writing.
