AN ELDERLY woman has died after discovering her home in Bristol had been burgled, police said.
Officers were called to the property, in Bradley Stoke. The call was made by a relative who had been checking the house while the home-owners were away.
Thieves had forced the door and stolen cash and jewellery from the home, in Oaktree Crescent. Following the discovery, the householders returned later that afternoon and the lady, in her 70s, became ill. She was rushed to hospital by ambulance but died.
Detective Inspector Jill Kells, of Avon and Somerset Police, said three men had been arrested in connection with the burglary.
“Our thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time, and we have appointed a specially-trained officer to support them as we carry out our investigation,” Ms Kells said.
“We have arrested three men in connection with our inquiries into this burglary and another burglary in Hambrook Lane, Stoke Gifford, that same afternoon.
“However I would appeal for anyone with any information which could help this investigation to contact us by calling 101 quoting reference 51255/14.”
Police were called just before 3.45pm on Thursday to a burglary in progress at a house in Hambrook Lane, Stoke Gifford.
Three men were detained later that afternoon and remain in custody, having been further arrested in connection with the burglary in Bradley Stoke.
Jewellery taken in both burglaries has not been recovered.
Officers are carrying out door-to-door inquiries and Crime Scene Investigators have examined both properties.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
