Teenager arrested after boy gunned down in city street

A 19-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a teenager shot dead as he walked along a street with friends, police said yesterday.

Kadeem Blackwood, 15, was on Caxton Street, Derby, shortly after 9:15pm on Tuesday when he was shot in the chest.

He was taken to Derbyshire Royal Infirmary but died a short time later from his injuries.

Assistant Chief Constable Peter Goodman of Derbyshire Police said: "This is a major incident, fatal shootings are not commonplace in Derby."

Denard Blackwood, Kadeem's great-uncle, said the family was originally from Jamaica but Kadeem and his parents were born in the UK. He said Kadeem's father was a welfare officer but he did not know if he was in the country as he had been on a trip to Canada.

A tribute posted on the website of a local newspaper read: "Kadeem, my lovely cuz.

"I am totally heartbroken and so, so angry that your life has been taken away from us in such a sick way, I and the rest of your family will never forget you and we won't stop until justice has been done, in the right way."

A member of Kadeem's family, who did not give her name, said the family did not wish to speak to the press.
