Supermarket recalls salad packs in salmonella scare

BAGS of ready-to-eat salad were withdrawn from Morrisons shops yesterday in a food poisoning scare involving possible salmonella contamination,

The supermarket chain has pulled the suspect bags from shelves across Britain - including its 49 stores in Scotland - and is asking customers to return them to stores.

Possible salmonella contamination came to light during routine testing by the supplier, a Morrisons spokeswoman said. The supermarket chain has notified the Food Standards Agency and has launched an investigation into the cause of the contamination.

The recalled 280g bags of own-brand mixed leafy salad with red chard were priced at 1.49. Only bags with the use-by date April 29 are being recalled.

Morrisons is putting signs up in stores to warn customers about the incident .
