Steam legend saved for UK

THE Flying Scotsman, the world-famous steam locomotive, has been saved from the prospect of a sale abroad to stay running in Britain, it was announced today.

The legendary engine was bought by the National Rail Museum with the help of a 365,000 gift from Sir Richard Branson, thousands of individual donations from enthusiasts and 1.8 million of public funds.

Flying Scotsman Plc had decided to put the engine up for sale earlier this year after delays in building a visitor centre to house it in Edinburgh.
