Standing ovation for Susan Boyle, but she needs to take breaks
SUSAN Boyle received yet another standing ovation last night as she played her second concert in Scotland.
However, as she took the stage of Edinburgh's Playhouse, her publicist said she would need more rest breaks in future.
The 48-year-old from Blackburn continued to take part in the Britain's Got Talent live tour, having already received a rapturous welcome when she sang at Glasgow's SECC on Monday evening.
Publicist Nicola Philips said last night's performance went "really well" but that the singer would need "sporadic" rest days.
"We've not toured with her before, so we don't know how many performances she can cope with," she said. "We are waiting for her to talk to us, to tell us when she needs a rest."
Her comments follow the cancellation of two performances at the weekend and continued uncertainty over whether she would appear prior to both Scottish shows.
Earlier last night, some fans outside the Playhouse said that they had been concerned by rumours circulating during the day that the singer would not appear.
Linsey Walker, from Livingston, said: "As soon as Susan got through to the final, we bought our tickets for the show. It's been touch and go as to whether or not she will perform, I would have been really disappointed if she had called off."
Gary Hughes, from Bellshill, agreed: "I know there's been a lot of talk of her being too tired to perform, but we're hoping that she will turn up. We've followed her progress right through the show, so this would be the perfect way to finish."
However, one pensioner who also found fame on Britain's Got Talent as a breakdancer has found the downside of celebrity after part of his disability benefits were stopped when he was seen by government officials on the show.
Fred Bowers, 73, from Leicestershire, was an instant hit when he performed the act, honed on dance floors seven days a week, in front of millions of viewers.
The Department for Work and Pensions declined to comment.
