The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, garlanded with flowers, rode in a symbolic war canoe along palm tree-lined roads yesterday, as they received a rapturous welcome from tens of thousands in the Solomon Islands.

Islanders lined the five-mile route from the airport to the capital, Honiara.
