Soups 'saltier than crisps'

SOUPS sold at popular high street food chains contain more salt than an adult's daily recommended amount.

Popular household brands are often no healthier, with manufacturers still a long way from meeting salt reduction targets, according to a survey by Consensus Action on Salt and Health (Cash).

The study, published yesterday, found that 99 per cent of the soups contained more salt per portion than a packet of crisps.

Some Eat soups contained "astoundingly high" amounts of salt, with ten products having more than the current daily maximum recommendation of 6g.
