Scots MP's red card to England Euro ref
THE referee blamed by some for dashing England’s Euro 2004 hopes today came under fire from a Scots MP.
Bill Tynan, the Labour MP for Hamilton South, has tabled a motion in the House of Commons criticising the quality of refereeing in the tournament. It does not specifically mention Swiss referee Urs Meier, who disallowed Sol Campbell’s goal which would have put England through to the semi-finals in the contest. But few will be in doubt the MP had him in mind when he demanded the football authorities took action to stop bad refs ruining more games.
The move has been backed by five other backbenchers who congratulated England on their performance in the championships.
