Rise in the dough spent on bread

THE British are spending more on bread, with the average price of a standard loaf shooting up 7p to £1.22 since the summer.

The average retail price of a normal 800g loaf, taking in the cost of Warburtons, Hovis and Kingsmill, as well as own brands, has soared since July as bakers pass on dramatic increases in the cost of wheat.
