Rare stamp sells for £70,000

A 159-year-old stamp with an upside-down image of the head of Queen Victoria yesterday sold for £69,600 at an auction in London.

The stamp — one of only 20 to 30 still in existence — is one of the most sought-after stamps from the 19th century. It is understood the head was accidentally printed upside-down on the stamp in Calcutta in 1854. Picture: Getty Images
