Police probe death of young woman found in graveyard
POLICE were yesterday investigating the death of a young woman found in a graveyard.
The body of the woman, believed to be in her 20s, was discovered outside St Clements Church in Aberdeen.
Emergency services were called out to the scene by a concerned member of the public shortly before 9pm on Tuesday. Police were yesterday treating the death as "unexplained".
A police spokesman said: "Grampian Police can confirm that about 9pm on Tuesday 23 June 2009, the body of a female in her twenties was found in St Clement's churchyard in Aberdeen.
"The death is being treated as unexplained and investigations are continuing.
"As is usual in these circumstances, a report will be submitted to the procurator-fiscal."
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman said:
"Our crew did not recover any body from the scene. Police dealt with the incident."
The churchyard is based at a commercial dockyard area of the city harbour. The site contains hundreds of gravestones of merchants who lived in the city throughout the 19th century.
