Organ swap list tops 16 million ahead of target
A CALL to double the number of people on the organ donor register to 16 million has been achieved a year early, NHS figures out today show.
26 per cent of people have now pledged to donate their organs after death.
In 2001, the then Health Secretary Alan Milburn pledged to double the number from eight million to 16 million in 2010.
