Olympic story comes out in the wash

A HUMBLE washing line helped inspire last year’s Olympic opening ceremony, the event’s scriptwriter has revealed.

Children’s author Frank Cottrell Boyce collaborated with Danny Boyle on the ceremony. Asked what tips he could offer aspiring writers, he told the Radio Times: “The Olympic ceremony included thousands of people, but the key was to break it into little sections. We hung up a washing line in our office and we attached bits of paper with what we wanted to include. So we would have the Queen hanging on one part of the line and chimney stacks on another, and we built up this washing line.”
