Nokia sues Apple over iPhone

NOKIA, the world's largest mobile phone maker, is suing US rival Apple for infringing patents on mobile phone technology for its iPhone.

The Finnish firm accused Apple of "trying to get a free ride on the back of Nokia's innovation", saying it had not been compensated for use of its technology.

The ten alleged patent infringements involve speech coding, wireless data, security and encryption.

Nokia said it had agreements with about 40 firms – including most mobile phone handset makers – allowing them to use the firm's technology, but that Apple had not signed an agreement.

Apple was not immediately available for comment. However, its shares dipped on the news.
