No Mr Bond, we expect you to buy…
A RARE set of 007 novels owned by the Scots baronet thought to have partly inspired Ian Fleming's James Bond character fetched £31,000 at auction yesterday.
The collection, which features many first editions and other background material, came from the library of the late Sir Fitzroy Maclean, the former diplomat, soldier and Tory MP, widely believed to be the role model for Fleming's James Bond.
London bookseller John Gilbert plans to use the lot, sold by Lyon & Turnbull, as background material for a Fleming bibliography.
