New tobacco law rolled out

NO-ONE under the age of 18 will be able to buy tobacco anywhere in Britain from today. A new law making it illegal for the under-18s to buy cigarettes or any other tobacco product comes into force today, raising the legal age for buying tobacco from 16 to 18 - in line with alcohol.

The Scottish Government hopes the move will cut the number of teenage smokers and has promised a tough crackdown on retailers who flout the law.
