New internet tracking plans set to be unveiled
PLANS for a huge expansion of e-mail, phone call and internet tracking were being unveiled today.
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith was due to announce proposals to extend Government records of billions of electronic conversations every month.
Ministers say they are needed so police and the security services can investigate crime and terrorism.
But civil liberties groups fear an expansion of "Big Brother" snooping powers.
