New head of sex crime unit named

A LEADING lawyer has been appointed as the new head of the unit which aims to bring the country’s worst sex offenders to justice.

Senior advocate depute Alison Di Rollo will lead the National Sexual Crimes Unit (NSCU), established more than three years ago to prosecute offences such as rape, child sex abuse and sexually-motivated murder.

Ms Di Rollo, the unit’s deputy head since July 2011, takes over from Gillian Wade, who is moving to a new role dealing with appeals. Her appointment was announced gby Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland QC.
