Movie stars slam cuts to asylum seekers' benefit

ACTORS Juliet Stevenson and Simon Callow and director Ken Loach today spoke out against cuts in support allowances for asylum seekers.

From today the subsistence allowance for single over-25s will be cut by 16 per cent to the same level now received by younger adults. New arrivals who would have received 42.16 will instead be given 35.13.

Refugee charities also condemned the "appalling" move and called for asylum seekers to be given the right to work.
