Medics happy as Best grips agent's hand

THE former football star George Best is starting to wake up and doctors are "very pleased with him", his agent said yesterday.

Phil Hughes said Best had started coming round and "gripped my hand".

Best has been attached to a ventilator in an intensive care ward of London's Cromwell Hospital but doctors were reducing his sedation slowly to enable him to wake up properly, Mr Hughes reported.

"He's a little better," he said. "They are very pleased this morning. I started to talk to him and he gripped by hand."

Best has been suffering from internal bleeding, thought to be related to immuno-suppressant drugs he takes to stop rejection of his transplanted liver.
