Man arrested following cartoon protest

POLICE yesterday arrested another man in connection with protests against cartoons satirising the prophet Muhammad.

Officers investigating offences believed to have been committed during a demonstration in central London on 3 February held a 23-year-old man at an address in north London, Scotland Yard said.

He was arrested under Section 4 of the Offences Against the Person Act (soliciting to murder), a spokesman said.

One man has already appeared in court over his alleged role in the protest.

Uman Javed, 26, was charged with soliciting murder and remanded in custody when he appeared at Bow Street Magistrates' Court in London on 16 March.

Abdul Rahman Saleem, 31, of Mellish Street, east London, has been charged with using words likely to stir up racial hatred.

Omar Zaheer, 26, of Derwent Road, Southall, was charged with racially aggravated disorderly behaviour and disorderly behaviour, and has been bailed to appear at Bow Street Magistrates' Court on Friday. Two other men, aged 39 and 23, have been bailed until 19 April.
