Man charged over jockey deaths

A MAN will appear in court today charged with the murders of two young jockeys who died in a fire at a flat.

Peter Brown, 37, from Malton, Yorkshire, will face magistrates today, accused of murdering promising apprentices Jan Wilson, 19, and Jamie Kyne, 18, in September.

Miss Wilson, from Forfar, and Mr Kyne, from Co Galway, Ireland, and died in the blaze at a complex in Norton, near Malton, north Yorkshire. The deaths shocked the racing world and a series of tributes were held in their memory at racecourses and yards across Britain and Ireland.

Brown was arrested yesterday by officers investigating the blaze at the three-storey block of flats on 5 September. Last night, he was charged with two counts of murder.

Brown will appear at Scarborough Magistrates' Court this morning.
