LORD Leveson singles out a story in the Daily Star in 2007 which suggested Kate and Gerry McCann had sold their daughter Madeleine.

He writes: “Aside from the gross inaccuracy of the reporting in issue, some of it was outrageous. If ever there was an example of a story which ran totally out of control, this is one. Once the original story had run its course the desire to find new ‘angles’ began to take over, with their corollary tendencies of sensationalism and scandal.”
