Icy roads warning for all of UK

MOTORISTS are facing treacherous conditions today with ice warnings in place for the whole of the UK.

The Met Office yesterday issued warnings of ice which are due to stay in place until 10am tomorrow.

There was 6cm of snow recorded in Glasgow, 2cm recorded in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, and 4cm in parts of Northern Ireland.

Seven of yesterday’s Scottish Football League fixtures – two First Division, three Second Division and two Third Division games – were postponed because of the cold weather.

None of the five scheduled Scottish Premier League matches were affected.

Temperatures were likely to drop to as low as -6C in parts of Scotland over the weekend, said forecaster Clare Allen.

She said: “We’ve been experiencing snow mainly over higher ground, in Wales, Scotland, the Pennines, the Lake District, but it’s wet and sleety snow so is not settling.

“The rest of the country is expected to remain very cold, with widespread frosts and everywhere below zero, apart from the south-west.

“There will be some more wintry showers, mainly in the north and west, with hail, sleet and snow expected in Scotland and northern England.”

Motorists have been urged to take extra care on the roads.

The AA also warned drivers to make sure they are prepared for the unsettled weather.

The cold weather led Ladbrokes to cut the odds of Edinburgh and Glasgow having a white Christmas to 9/4.

The odds for London are 3/1.

In the south west higher ground of Edinburgh City the roads have been covered in frozen snow since Thursday night the 15th December. So in the words of Keeeeeefffffffffff Broooooooon....... "Transport Minister Keith Brown said the use of MART was in keeping with the Scottish government's "no room for complacency" approach". I would hate to see Keeeeeefffffffffff and his palls try to fight sleep because the "Snow Queen and Jack Frost" have certainly got that lot hypnotised. Cossey chats and coffee round a table never resolves anything. That`s what derailed the Vanity Tram.
