Holidaymakers win £120,000 pay-out over Legionnaires' outbreak in Turkey
A GROUP of British holidaymakers who contracted Legionnaires' disease at a Turkish hotel have been paid compensation totalling £120,000.
Nine people became ill and suffered breathing problems within days of arriving at the Grand Sarba 1 hotel in Icmeler, Turkey, in 2004. Six were subsequently diagnosed with Legionnaires'.
The victims sued the holiday firm Goldtrail and won a total of 120,000 in damages, their solicitors, Irwin Mitchell, revealed yesterday.
Peter Maitland, 75, from Wrexham, who was affected, said: "This holiday was supposed to be a time for myself and my wife to relax. However, it was quite the opposite."
Mr Maitland described the standards of cleanliness at the hotel as "appalling". He added: "People suffered illness and continue to suffer symptoms. I am pleased that this nightmare has come to a conclusion."
