Historian plea to keep gold hoard in Britain
HISTORIAN Dr David Starkey issued a plea to the public yesterday to back a fundraising drive to keep the largest ever hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold in the region where it was discovered.
The campaign aims to raise 3.3 million to acquire the Staffordshire Hoard, which was unearthed with the help of a metal detector last summer.
