Heads up on new type of Macdinosaur

A NEW species of dinosaur, dubbed the Abydosaurus mcintoshi, has been identified after palaeontologists unearthed four skulls.

The remains of the long-necked sauropods, giant plant-eaters, were found at a quarry in the Dinosaur National Monument in Utah, United States.

Dr Brooks Britt, a palaeontologist at Brigham Young University, where the skulls are on display, said: "Their heads are lighter than mammal skulls as they sit way out at the end of long necks. They didn't chew food; they just grabbed it and swallowed it."

Abydosaurus lived 105 million years ago. The juvenile skulls, about 25ft long, were found near a river, so took the genus Abydos, the city near the Nile where Osiris is said to have been buried. The name mcintoshi honours US sauropod expert Jack McIntosh.
