Headaches are No 1 excuse for skipping work

MIGRAINES have replaced the dodgy prawn as the favourite excuse among many job-shy staff throwing a sickie from work, claim experts.

Migraines cost UK industry more than 2.25 billion a year through lost days, but about 15 per cent of workers admit to using the condition as an excuse for a day off.

As a result, many genuine victims are forced to lie about their condition for fear their bosses and colleagues will not believe they are really ill.

According to a YouGov poll, at least 28 per cent of real sufferers worry they will not be believed, 33 per cent feel guilty for letting down colleagues and 13 per cent would lie, claiming they had another illness so as not to appear to be skiving.

"Migraine sufferers worry how their migraines are negatively affecting colleague's views of them," said Lee Tomkins, director of the Migraine Action Association.
