Hands-free phone 'worst distraction'

DRIVERS talking on a hands-free mobile phone are more distracted than when speaking to a passenger, according to a government-commissioned report.

Those using hands-free mobiles were also more distracted than those adjusting in-car controls like the heater and the radio, the Transport Research Laboratory concluded.

The report said driving and talking was "cognitively demanding".
