Goat tested for 'mad cow' virus

BRITISH scientists are testing tissue from a French goat to see whether ‘mad cow disease’ has been naturally transmitted to another species for the first time.

The goat’s brain tissue was sent to the UK after French researchers found what they suspect is Transmissable Spongiform Encephalopathy (TSE), which is indistinguishable from BSE.

BSE in animals other than cattle has never previously been detected.
